    Well, howdy there, internet people.
   It's Belle again.
So today, we're going to talk about oil prices, gas prices, what it means, and how Drill Baby Drill is shaping up to not happen.
So today, we're going to dive a little into oil.
We've touched on little developments here and there.
But in the Roads Not Taken episode, I talked about the drop in oil price and how it might not actually be something to cheer about.
   We also have this question.
Belle, oil prices are going down, and I tried to explain how that isn't good in this case.
My father-in-law says the drop in price is due to Trump's Drill Baby Drill policies.
It's hard to explain how there's a hundred reasons oil can go up, but only two ways it goes down.
He's convinced it's because of more drilling.
Help, I'm just a silly girl who doesn't know anything.
Tiny little lady brain can't handle a lot, huh?
   Been there.
Okay, so first, the two ways oil goes down.
One is that there's a perception that there is or there's going to be more oil on the market.
Because countries start producing more, or a new field was found, or there's a president that greatly favors the oil industry.
   Stuff like that.
The other is because there's a perceived or real drop in the amount of oil being used.
This is almost always a bad thing overall.
So, which is it in this case?
   Both.
But most of the massive falls in price are because of a perceived lack in demand for oil because of fears of an upcoming recession.
I'm sure you told him that.
When I tell you how to prove it to him, you're probably going to facepalm.
Because I'm certain you've looked at this chart recently.
Oil is a market that reacts almost immediately to news.
Go to your favorite chart showing crude oil futures.
If you're looking at the Google one, click YTD, year to date.
Sure enough, oil has been slightly down since Trump took office.
It's within the range of price going back to about 2023.
But it's on the lower end.
Then all of a sudden, it drops like a rock.
   See the date?
From the day Trump took office until April 2nd, oil prices dropped about 5.5%.
If your father-in-law wants to attribute all of that to Trump being oil king from learning about it by watching Dallas in the 80s or whatever, that's fine.
   Just let him have it.
We'll just remove OPEC and oil being a global market from the conversation.
But from April 2nd until recording, there was a drop of about 15%.
It drops like a rock immediately after Trump announced his tariffs.
To oversimplify and just wave away global market considerations, it's because the oil industry sees recession on the horizon.
And with that, decrease in the demand that accompanies bad economic times.
You can show him on the chart what did it.
But if he's not listening to you, he probably won't listen to me either.
There's an explainer from impartial points down below that I'll link that might be helpful because it's removed from politics and just explains the mechanics.
You might also want to point out that lower oil price and higher costs for the things needed to drill means there will be less drilling, not more.
If oil price doesn't recover, there won't be any drill baby drilling.
   Anyway, it's just a thought.
   Y'all have a good day.

Hi everyone
Gasoline went up $0.60 overnight at one local gas station. $3.69/gallon is steep when across town it's $3.09.

Friday's report of the change in drilling rigs showed the biggest decrease in a couple of years - apparently the oil companies are trying to CUT supply. That is the opposite of drilling.

Here in Nova Scotia, Canada , diesel dropped 50 cents in two weeks. I filled my eco diesel ram 1500 for $116 . Prior to lower prices it cost $190-$210

Uncertainty in global trade definitely makes long-term investments like drilling a bigger gamble. It’s a reminder of how deeply interconnected our economy is—policy decisions ripple across industries fast.

Wait until people realize how much their utility bills are going to go up because Trump is making it easier for corporations to export more LNG than ever before. Profits before people. ???????

Do something delusional. Scream all about it. Reality proves you wrong. Back down. Claim victory. The Cult cheers.

Rinse and repeat. That is Trump's narcissism in full.

Thanks for the drill not happening!!
33.@donaldmrambojr5695(2025-04-13 20:05:41)
Could a recession be looming with the drop in oil prices & reduction in demand ?
34.@DarkPesco(2025-04-13 20:05:45)
A great benefit to Trump's trade war: A huge reduction, if only for a while, in CO2 emissions!! The economy shutting down would be the best thing for the world. Maybe not for humans, but the WORLD will prosper greatly!!
35.@kuifjenoe(2025-04-13 20:06:07)
Wow it makes sense! Trump crashes the economy-->oil prices drop--> no income for russia --> war ends. He's actually doing it, that's the only explanation He's a genius! I just didn't understand.
36.@markfeland2285(2025-04-13 20:06:49)
Mr. Global covers this topic extremely well, including rig counts
37.@donaldwert7137(2025-04-13 20:06:59)
Good afternoon, Ranch Fam! Hope everyone has had a good day. I seem to recall that drill baby drill isn't going to help us much, anyway. Not only are our refineries already at or near capacity, but the kind of oil that comes out of our wells is unsuitable for automotive fuel. Did I remember that correctly?
38.@MephitisUK(2025-04-13 20:07:37)
OPEC are increasing production too, 411,000 barrels a day.
39.@AverageJoeMN(2025-04-13 20:07:42)
Oil companies are shutting oil drilling down. 7 rigs alone this week. That's the most oil rigs shut down in 20 years
40.@LIL-RED-BIRD(2025-04-13 20:07:50)
May I suggest https://youtu.be/dOPhOzBfB7Y?si=jJX6MqDymBBfuZhH as source since he’s an oil VP
41.@TreeboretheRubyLord(2025-04-13 20:08:33)
Mr Global, here on u tube, showed data announcing the shutting down of 7 rigs already. He says more oil rigs will be getting shut down, but Natural Gas is relatively safe, since its used so heavily to create electrical power.
42.@jentihom(2025-04-13 20:08:45)
The ships on seas and airplanes consumes tons of oil products each day. Worldwide boycott affect these 2 fields already plus the population reduce consumption, less trains or truckloads of products on the way. Peoples don't spend money to buy products, no car ride...less oil products. A quick ingredient to determine the futur. thanks belle.
43.@veilmontTV(2025-04-13 20:09:22)
Who could have predicted trump didnt know shit about anything?
44.@Phuc_Yhou(2025-04-13 20:09:35)
Biden stopped drilling and put a block on gas prices by using Hunters laptop then hiding it under a case of Bud lite so the supreme leader has been fighting back against the bigliest problem anyone anywhere with tears in their eyes has had to solve.
45.@ryanerickson3063(2025-04-13 20:09:38)
It was never going to happen, it was never a good idea. The man should not be president.

Mr. Global covers this as well. He's an industry expert. His assessment is the same as yours Belle.

49.@NancyfromIllinois(2025-04-13 20:10:00)
Wake me up when the Trump regime is over.
50.@davidanderson6100(2025-04-13 20:10:30)
People don't understand the one important thing, it's not about drilling, it's about refinery capacity, the refineries are operating at almost 100%, if the companies built new refineries there would be over production and prices will drop, and the oil companies don't want the price to drop. That's why when Biden opened up those arctic areas for lease sales last year, the oil companies said " no thanks."
