Pothole Claims Soar! (NEG)

Hi, welcome to another episode of Hot Takes.
Figures reveal the parlour state of Scottish roads.
The reason that the roads are in such a bad way is of course the SNP refused to fix them, but that doesn't mean it isn't costing the SNP government lots of money not fixing them.
Because the claims are going in for burst tyres and damaged suspension etc.
Last year there was 27,000 claims across the whole of the country.
Since 2019 the claims have gone up 69% and it's getting worse of course.
This has a deleterious effect on the insurance that the Scottish government pays.
It has to cover itself so it pays for this insurance.
The insurance claims are so high the insurance premium is doubling year on year.
At this rate it will be cheaper to fix the roads than it will be to pay the insurance.
Yet they still won't fix the roads.
I think they've been infected by that green disease that says road travel bad, let the roads fall into disrepair, let Scotland return to a third world society and then everybody will be happy apparently.
But yeah, it's going to get worse until they start fixing them.
But for some reason they just refuse.
   It's weird.
But then I suppose fixing roads doesn't mean pushing for independence does it?
   It's not in their psyche.
There you go, let me know what you think.
   Thanks a lot.
   Bye.

I can’t imagine how scary it is for motorcyclists to hit one at night……life or death ???? I remember one on the M25 in a middle lane which was there for weeks, ludicrous.

Can't build new roads, can't fix old roads is there anything the SNP can get right. How about paying £75 to watch Krankie filling in pot holes????
14.@JohnSmith-b4b(2025-04-14 07:08:09)

The roads remind me of stories from the horse & carriage roads of the last century.
17.@alastairharris1866(2025-04-14 07:44:28)
there are roads where I live which have more pot holes than actual road!

This is what happens when you have a bunch of narcissistic, glory-hunters in Government.

All the revenue created by the nation gets spent on their vanity, ego projects. Nothing left for the people who provide the money.

No effs given. They have no interest being in Government.
They want to be in power.
Two different things altogether.

Edinburgh council have a claims handling firm called Gallagher Bassett and they just dismiss the claims.
Potholes appear within 24 hours but as long as the piece of road was inspected in the last few months your claim is declined.
I speak from experience. 3 burst tyre claims declined in 3 years. (2022-2025).
20.@gordy4459(2025-04-14 08:39:30)
In Oxfordshire they send someone out to spray white paint around the potholes...Nothing happens after that except for the potholes growing even bigger....
21.@SunnybraeCroft(2025-04-14 08:48:34)
Mobile tyre fitters dream, come to the Isle of Skye 10 tyres in 3 days one particular pothole.
22.@neilJackson-b6v(2025-04-14 08:50:55)
We why would anyone visit Scotland to have their car ruined or damaged more revenue gone for the Scottish economy ????????????
23.@Jalla33(2025-04-14 08:58:27)
My sister broke her ankle… walking at night..
24.@chrispomphrett4283(2025-04-14 09:01:32)
They repainted the lines where I live. They painted lines into the potholes and wavy lines over the chewing gum bumps where they patched before. It looks awful and is even more awful to drive over. Its a main route to a hospital and I have been in an ambulance recently being bounced around...the last thing I needed !
25.@peterbush4569(2025-04-14 09:32:46)
Cant fix roads but can give themselves a pay rise
26.@jameshowe6057(2025-04-14 10:32:47)
I drive a lot between paphos and polis on Cyprus and when i drive in UK i realise just how bad UK roads actually are in comparison, i mean cypriot back roads are bad but main highways are lovely to drive on unlike UK roads with badly tarmac’d patches everywhere, holes, and uneven surface work, what a Dump!
27.@carolinenorman6141(2025-04-14 12:17:34)
Homeopathic remedies Google it
28.@andynjw1163(2025-04-14 12:19:17)
My road looks like its been carpet bombed.

There’s smoother roads running through the Amazon rain forest than in the U.K. now. Ones by where I live look like they’ve been battered by a meteor shower.
It’s all done by design. They earn more than enough from the road users in tax to make sure that it’s of a good quality.
30.@davidsloan8435(2025-04-14 12:35:23)
We have a shit Scottish government
31.@GordonMcgall(2025-04-14 13:40:16)
Sorry to burst your bubble, but if we gain independence we will have a lot more money in our coffers to repair the roads.
32.@NicholasBarker-ip4ht(2025-04-14 14:57:02)
Pensions are more important
33.@bert5878(2025-04-14 20:44:09)
The main issue here in Fife is shoddy workmanship on roads. Almost all holes are where patches are not done properly and the road breaks up around the patch. The other issue appears to be a very thin layer of tarmac laid over an old surface giving poor adhesion and very quick breakup of the new surface. Contractors should be forced to give warranties on their work.

Handy hint to you all.
If your vehicle is damaged by a pothole, go FixMyStreet to see if the pothole has been reported. You'll have a far better chance of receiving compensation if you provide evidence that the pothole had been reported to the council and they were aware of the problem.
