china (2) well (2) |
| Yuanue Yang, who is a FT correspondent in China, she's a really smart British economist. | | She and Abbottson and Mohammed went to Israel in order to do a visit. | | And somewhat to their astonishment, they arrive at the airport in Tel Aviv and suddenly find they're denied entrance to Israel. | | And they try to say, well, we're British members of parliament. | | And they're told that they are there to spread hate and disinformation. | | I know that they're both very, very strongly pro-Palestine. | | But actually, as you say, Yang was a journalist for the Financial Times. | | There's some amazing stuff about human rights abuses in China. | | The idea that this is somehow she wants to pick on Israel, I think is nonsense. | | Surely it's much more comms trouble for you, denying them entry, make yourself look like an autocratic regime that has something to hide and doesn't let in members of parliament. | | What's the counter argument? | | If you were trying to make the argument for why actually denying them entry is no bad thing? | | Well, I'd say there are only two. | | One would be because they can. | | And just as Trump is testing the whole time, can I get away with stuff? | | I think partly it's that. | | Let's just do it because we can. | | And I think the second thing domestically is to try to generate this sense that we're on our own and the world is all against us. | | And so you create enemies. | | And I don't know how big a story it was there, but not as big as it was here. | | And frankly, not as big as I think it would have been if we weren't living through this era of impunity. | | We do it. | | So I think by the way, if you won't get to this, we'll have to choose to show you the best content from my local community. | | And let's come forward. | | You guys have to play, if you like it. | | I'm glad we can go. | | Are these kids that can migrate out? | | Are these kids that are amazing? | | Did you link to them? | | Yeah. | | They do the best? | | They do the best? | | Are these kids that were these kids that were originally invented? | | Well, it was 18 ago. | | What was the oldest kid? | | It was 19 ago? | | So I think that tweet became very lame. | | What caught up with that joke? | | What was that? | | Wait, look at the truthissa and took care of the world? | | everyday, let me know. | | So I was born and TA considering. |

1. | @ratheskin58(2025-04-13 15:20:22) Given the impressive competition from their big brothers across the Atlantic, Israel will have to up their game to remain number one rogue nation. | 2. | @louduva9849(2025-04-13 15:20:44) Christ, these two are pathetic. Everyone with ties to Israel should be expelled from the country. | 3. | @zetectic7968(2025-04-13 16:15:31) Of course there will be no reaction, except for empty words, from either Labour or Tory. No stop to all arms shipments to Israel. The ambassador should be called in & told to pack their bags as we have had enough of the Netanyahu BS. Once again it shows that Starmer is weak as water as he is scared of the right-wing media saying he is antisemitic like Corbyn. | 4. | @allthings1036(2025-04-13 16:34:02) So pro palestine, wanting to go there to do what??? | 5. | @iandez8455(2025-04-13 16:55:39) Just stop aid and support to Israel. They have shown themselves not to be deserving of it - can use it for our own defences and support for Ukraine who do actually deserve it! | 6. | @ceioceio2598(2025-04-13 17:57:12) And remember that the problem has been started by the british back in the 50' ...... | 7. | @philipsmith1990(2025-04-13 18:31:50) Of course Israel has something, actually a lot, to hide but simply saying that will attract vociferous accusations of anti-semitism. This makes it impossible to have a serious discussion which is of course the aim. | 8. | @danmayberry1185(2025-04-13 19:11:51) When leaders stop caring about their countries' reputation, it's time to worry. | 9. | @Emmett-Shearer9886(2025-04-13 19:14:21) The Israelis are actually committing war crimes and recording them for the whole world to see. They are behaving no different than the terrorists, but we in Europe will later have to pretend that they are a normal country as we sing with them in Eurovision. Why should we then be disturbed when Putin acts the same in Ukraine and China prepares to act in the same way in Taiwan? What is the point of having International Law on matters of War Crimes when no one is going to be held accountable for them? What is the point of International law then? Is Trump right, Is Putin, Xi Jinping, Kim and the Ayatollahs correct that we are all no different than animals and that might makes right, the law and standards be damned? Have the tyrants and terrorists succeeded in dragging us down to their level? | 10. | @Bob-wh1by(2025-04-13 19:23:43) Swapping to China does not address the appauling behaviour of the current Jewish leadership. The Palistinians, have been kicked out of their homes, villages, towns, and country, etc., over many decades.¹
If we were forced out of our homes and country, how would we feel? I would say jolly bad form....even criminal!
¹ Prof. of History Exeter Uni.; former historian at Haifa Uni. Ilan Pappe, 'Ethnic Cleansing of Palestine' 'The Idea of Israel' , etc. | 11. | @mikejk2192(2025-04-13 20:53:58) You could have stopped at "They are very strongly pro palestine" they are not objective and it perfectly reasonable to deny them entry. | 12. | @LordGrantius(2025-04-13 23:20:47) I should look more into it, but what were they going to Israel for? Were they representing the UK in an official capacity as Members of Parliament? If not, then i have less sympathy.
Trump 1.0 wasn't as bad as everyone feared, but it did force us to start having a conversation about whether a state could have borders. Does Israel have a right to have borders? If so, does it have a right to decide who crosses them?
If they were there on official business and were still denied entry, well, thats just another issue to hold Israel to account for. Anecdotally, i recall a friend of a friend crossing into Canada from the States. He had official appointments with the federal government, but still was harassed, and when asked where he was staying (with a friend surnamed Bishop) was told, "that doesn't sound like a Canadian name."
As if Billy Bishop airport wasn't a couple hours down the road. | 13. | @MartinMaynard(2025-04-14 07:11:55) Rory, as lecturer at Yale I wonder whether you will be the subject of exclusion under Trumps DEI attack on universities. | 14. | @460mas(2025-04-14 08:08:28) Another rest is politics pro Palestine circle jerk | 15. | @stefanotuv(2025-04-14 08:35:39) it is shocking how british are so embedded in their american idiocy that struggle to just saying it. ... we are talkign about criminals, in an occupied territory who are committing genocide. Copy and Paste if you dont have the morality to say it. | 16. | @PeterPalmer-d7q(2025-04-14 09:06:10) What got me though was bad enough's response as Tory leader. She was an even bigger disgrace | 17. | @clivehayton7467(2025-04-14 10:15:12) Total bullshit from you two again . | 18. | @macsmiffy2197(2025-04-14 12:20:07) Is it really too much effort to say ‘communications’. | 19. | @soonpohtay4794(2025-04-16 03:29:56) Wera Hobhouse??? | 20. | @davidrobinson7684(2025-04-16 11:14:08) Some people really hate the idea of human beings having rights, Netanyahu being one of them. | 21. | @billgiles3261(2025-04-16 13:11:45) Israel is perfectly entitled to accept or reject anyone who wants to visit. They were not there as a parliamentary group and so were actually private citizens. They were treated perfectly well by the Israelis while waiting to be sent home. | 22. | @shaunryan6(2025-04-17 10:13:03) 2 foreigners, one born in Yemen and one in China, Netanyahu, would be arrested on a Kangaroo ICC arrest warrant if he set foot in the UK. These 2 knew they would be denied entry, showboating. | 23. | @ooohnooo8029(2025-04-20 05:42:54) Creating enemies of one the main countries that supply arms, intelligence and political cover for them. Always the victim. | 24. | @bartholomewtott3812(2025-04-21 07:23:54) Didn't Alastair Campbell support the invasion of Iraq and actively promote it? Now he's all aww poor Palestinians. | 25. | @salimmeghjee769(2025-04-21 18:10:19) Alistair NEEDS TO BE IN HAGUE | 26. | @coffeeli481(2025-04-24 12:03:54) They ought not go to Israel, go to Palestine where they would be much welcomed. |
