| Hi, my name's Phil, I like talking about politics and in this video I'd like to discuss the arguments for our government to finally recognise the Palestinian status. | | Otherwise, as Labour's Emily Thornberry puts it, might not be a Palestine left to recognise before long. | | But first for daily news and commentary please hit the subscribe button to stay notified. | | So in terms of sites of major human atrocities, the only bright spot recently has been the fall of Assad in Syria. | | Seems to be still no sign of hope for Xinjiang or Sudan, but since Trump's election the outlook has become substantially worse for both Ukraine and Palestine. | | The United States is now demanding not only Ukraine's minerals and energy, but very recently control of their Russian gas pipeline into Europe as well. | | And the best they seem to be offering Ukraine in return is to divide the country up, as Germany was divided after the Second World War between the West and the Soviet Union. | | But Palestine faces a complete existential threat. | | Netanyahu seems to have dropped the act, has increasingly been open about just seizing the entire country. | | The official position of Israel now is that Palestine should not exist. | | Not that it can only exist without Hamas, but cannot exist at all. | | This is because, for now at least, he has the backing of Donald Trump, and there is no time to wait for Trump's presidency to end, assuming it even does on time. | | So France's Emmanuel Macron has suggested that France could recognize the Palestinian state very soon. | | The most likely time would be the UN conference on the Israeli siege of Gaza this summer. | | But Macron doesn't want to do it alone. | | Other European countries have already made the move, some of them. | | This isn't about a show of solidarity, much good that does. | | It's about affecting practical change of politics. | | As a result, there's a strong argument, which Labour MPs led by Emily Thornberry, who is chair of the Foreign Affairs Select Committee, that the UK government should coordinate with this. | | It is already our policy formally to recognize the Palestinian state at the time of maximum impact. | | Thornberry has said that we may need to get a move on because there may no, there may not be Palestine left before long. | | Even the Conservatives used to have a policy of recognizing Palestine before the final agreement was implemented. | | So it used to be the case that we would recognize Palestine once the two-state solution was implemented. | | Then that was changed under David Cameron to, yeah, we probably need to do it before then. | | I suspect it is no longer conservative policy given Badenok's attitude, but I don't think she's set it out. | | But in practical terms, the UK, France and almost everyone else is fairly powerless to directly intervene. | | You see, take the difference between Ukraine and Palestine, for example. | | Now, we can help supply Ukraine with arms and intelligence to fight their invaders. | | It's a really simple, clear-cut case, and they are based in Europe. | | We cannot do the same to help Palestine. | | Not only would it be diplomatically impossible, there is no Palestinian military to support, only a gang of terrorists just as badly could, right? | | And consider that even countries in the Middle East, who have no domestic political problems defending Palestinians against Israel. | | They haven't bothered to do so, have they? | | Why? | | Because they're powerless as well. | | We've long passed the point of hoping to appeal to either Netanyahu, who needs the war in order to stay out of prison, or the wider Israeli body politic, because they're trapped in a fortress mentality now. | | There is only one card to play, that is America. | | Yes, there's the small flaw in the plan, isn't there? | | We need Donald Trump, yes, that Donald Trump, the guy who wants to evict Palestinians from their own land to build hotels and swimming pools. | | We need that Donald Trump to tell Israel to stop bulldozing the place. | | This does not sound very likely, does it? | | And indeed it may not be, but it's also not impossible. | | Trump is badly bruised right now from his tariff nonsense. | | This is still not over, so his potential to suffer politically over the next few months remains. | | He may well face concerted pressure, even from within his own party, to start reforging some traditional alliances again. | | And it could be argued that this summer would be a good time to get Trump to see that pointless fights where there's no profit for him are best avoided. | | A concerted effort from the major powers of Europe and the Middle East to pressure Trump into muzzling Israel may actually work. | | Frankly, I've not heard any better suggestions. | | It turns out that shouting at a crowd of people who agree with you thousands of miles away hasn't worked, so we may as well try something else. | | Several European countries have already recognized the Palestinian state, the most notable, I suppose, being Sweden, Norway, Ireland and Spain last year. | | The UK and France, and ideally Germany, literally, I'm not sure about Italy, if possible, joining in and working with Saudi Arabia and other Gulf states to put pressure on Trump as well. | | You know, he will be reeling from the fallout of his Liz Trust Tribute Act. | | So it could well be argued that if there is a moment of maximum impact, this is it. | | Indeed, what moment could have more impact than doing it with our closest Security Council colleague at a time of existential peril for Palestine itself, with a US government which has already done enough damage and can little afford to fight on too many fronts at once. | | It doesn't even mean that Trump has to give up on his plans of a Gaza Riviera development, you know, just work with the Palestinians to do it instead of Israeli occupiers. | | Netanyahu is moving quickly to render the two-state solution completely impractical. | | And there is strength in numbers, like if Europe and Gulf states combine to pressure the White House, you know, you can't see how Trump would attempt retributive action. | | I think if there was ever merit in choosing a time to have maximum impact to recognise Palestine, this June will be it. | | It's not even like it would take significant resources, other than what's needed to deal with the inevitable backlash in the Tory media. | | But if Labour are going to take their comm seriously, then the least they should be capable of is defending a policy which, yes, will be attacked in the media, but which is broadly supported by the public. | | You know, until recently, it's broadly supported cross-party. | | It's the Conservatives who change, not public attitudes as far as I can tell. | | But there we are. | | Those are my thoughts. | | Let me know yours in the comments below. | | If you've enjoyed the video, please click the like button and subscribe for further content. | | If you'd like to support the channel further, you can click the join button for memberships. | | Thanks for watching and until next time, I'll see you later. |

Merci, Internet ???? | 2. | @EboneeShafferer(2025-04-13 18:02:29) I never realized laughter could be so contagious. Thank you for this video???? | 3. | @takenoprisoners-u3x(2025-04-13 18:04:41) Its way too late for Starmer and his entire zionist cabinet they are already war criminals nothing they do now is going to change that the question is will they be prosecuted for it or will the West remain outside the rule of law? | 4. | @takenoprisoners-u3x(2025-04-13 18:06:20) YOU ARE SUCH A LIAR. There is NOTHING stopping the English government in intervening in Gaza as it does with Ukraine. NOTHING but IDEOLOGY AND POLITICAL WILL. Bought and sold for ZIONIST GOLD. | 5. | @AndreasDenkste(2025-04-13 18:07:30) When will they recognise the Greater Raj of Anglistan? Because certain parties sure seem like they want to s*ck up to Islam and its terrorists. | 6. | @sammyjohn9353(2025-04-13 18:10:30) The Islamic liebour party will recognise and cosy up to any kind of radical UK hating sand dweller ... White Christian people are way way way at the back of the queue with Starmer ... Just take a look at how the Islamic liebour party put Muslim votes before the safety of our children, covering up for the Pakistani pedophile rape gangs .. tells you all you need to know !!.... | 7. | @bradw8102(2025-04-13 18:13:24) Trump and Netanyahu are among the most egregious examples in history of the lengths one will go to in order to stay out of jail. | 8. | @davidpowell6098(2025-04-13 18:13:31) No hope for Palestine unless someone shows some humanity. Whilst the US is in Israel's pocket, they are stuffed. The Israel lobby are well entrenched in Westminster, have been for decades. All their charitable talk is just lip service. | 9. | @candidaprout560(2025-04-13 18:13:45) Good evening Phil and all here. But please don't expect anything from trump. He doesn't care about his country imagine about others!!! My heart goes out to All civilians suffering from the war. We have to say out and loud ???? stop the war against the Ukrainian people ???????? stop the war in the middle east. Remember what went on 1939/45? Our grandparents fought and some died against the swastica flag. Have a nice evening ???? and all here | 10. | @davidpowell6098(2025-04-13 18:15:03) Trump will not interfere with Israel, his son in law is Jewish, as are a lot of his family connections. | 11. | @normanjones9663(2025-04-13 18:17:15) It's strange, but looking at the photo of Trump and Netanjahu together, the main thought I can't get out of my head is: How many combined years of prison time am I looking at here? | 12. | @rowejon(2025-04-13 18:18:30) Israel is carrying out a Palestine Holocaust. | 13. | @GULF_OF_aMEXICO(2025-04-13 18:19:08) nah, it's over for them, their hatred of Jews has proven stronger than their desire to prosper, to he ll with them
when you lose a war you started, you're very likely to lose the land as well | 14. | @thiscommentsdeleted(2025-04-13 18:19:13) Labour has not done nearly enough to call out [seriously censored word, tf is wrong with this platform?]. Be more like Spain and Ireland... | 15. | @ionnanskilliorus(2025-04-13 18:19:29) It's the very least any Gov should do. Labour are complicit in the crimes. | 16. | @grantmclellan2236(2025-04-13 18:20:16) The Free Palestine crowd helped Trump get back into the White House. I lost any sympathy to them because of that. 19 Million Americans who sat out the election have Palestine blood on their hands | 17. | @Pikaling3408(2025-04-13 18:21:31) Tbh the idea of Gaza Riviera (especially if its a casino) is one for the birds as gambling is strictly not allowed according to the Quran and a casino is a place to gamble so unsuitable for most of the Middle East except Israel. | 18. | @sammyjohn9353(2025-04-13 18:22:29) Record numbers of illegal channel hoppers still coming over under two tier Starmer and his Islamic liebour party,, 600 plus just yesterday, and 8,000 .. YES EIGHT THOUSAND, so far just this year !!! ... "Smash the gangs" ???????????????? .. What's Starmer's next move, take a million young angry Palestinian men that absolutely hate us !! | 19. | @Twy87(2025-04-13 18:22:53) Ironically, Israel was slapped with a 10% tariff rate, having originally been threatened with 17%.
Good luck getting the likes of Italy or Hungary on board, mind. | 20. | @andyislington(2025-04-13 18:24:02) But we could stop supplying Isreal | 21. | (2025-04-13 18:28:08) My god you mention Gaza for once’s, are you feeling okay.. | 22. | @acrodave9287(2025-04-13 18:32:49) Palestine should've been recognised as a State long ago; Netanyahu and his now openly fascist Likud party and Trump backed by Dominionist Christian Nationalists want to see the Palestinians either massacred or expelled, preferably the former. Unfortunately for the Israelis, if the Christian Nationalists get their way, there won't be any Jews there either. "Praise Orange Jesus, the Messiah of Criminals!" | 23. | @MrMartinSchou(2025-04-13 18:33:04) You run into a non-Trump problem in the US - evangelicals, AKA the major base for Republicans.
Evangelicals want to trigger World War 3 while Israel exists, because they believe this will bring about the end of world end times of the Bible. They're that crazy. | 24. | @Pikaling3408(2025-04-13 18:33:59) before the ceasefire, Israel used to have the jus ad bellum due to October 7th. But they didn't act in jus in bello. Now they broke the ceasefire they no longer have the jus ad bellum. Europe should be treating Netanyahu in a similar manner to Putin. This is now unjust war. | 25. | @ismailm123(2025-04-13 18:37:28) I don't know if anyone has ever looked at a map of the region even before the recent land grab in Gaza and the west bank where would this Palestinian state live? The 2 state lie is up there with Arbeit macht frei a sick joke over 75 years in the making on the Palestinian people! | 26. | @TheUnatuber(2025-04-13 18:40:20) Jews For Genocide
You've come a long way, Bibi! | 27. | @RedJadeArt(2025-04-13 18:43:54) Ah yes, the thing that we were calling for on the left since long before Starmer was in power. | 28. | @hornetgamer8980(2025-04-13 18:44:10) The time to piss Trump off is when he is in no position to do anything about it... and I would argue now is a more opportune moment than the summer. He has the wiggleroom to up the crazy in the summer (stupid though it would be). Right now, at this precise moment in April, he does not. | 29. | @Oksoimgay-yz2po(2025-04-13 18:51:03) I would like to see Palistine saved, but Trump won't permit it as he's jailing people for daring to support them, calling it anti semitic, and that's that. Trump, like Netenyahu wants to see the Palistinian state wiped out. Could this have anything to do with Trump trying to pacify the iranians who have long since refused to acknowledge the existence of the state of Israel. | 30. | @mannetjie3704(2025-04-13 18:52:35) boosting algo. | 31. | @Kian2002(2025-04-13 18:53:48) Without the USA threatening pulling the plug on NATO the Europeans are finally free to act without interference; Russia and Israel, by supporting Trump, might have done more harm to themselves and their dreams of genocide by getting the President they wanted? | 32. | @evie1915(2025-04-13 18:54:49) How about dividing along the existing Ukraine / Russian border? | 33. | @markushomske9721(2025-04-13 18:54:54) Germany officially recognizing the right to a Palestinian state? The headlines in the right wing Israeli papers write themselves. As a German you aren't even allowed to criticize human rights violations by the IDF. Btw I'm German I've had that experience. Won't do it again | 34. | @philsteart3671(2025-04-13 18:57:27) The Israeli lobby in the two major parties in the UK is way to strong and I can't see the UK joining in | 35. | @TheInternationalist01(2025-04-13 19:00:27) Palestine is already a sovereign state, they don't need the "recognition" of the USA's bitch. | 36. | @harveybrown37(2025-04-13 19:03:41) Starmer is complicit. AOAV’s analysis of flight-tracking data shows that between 3 December 2023 and 27 March 2025, the RAF carried out at least 518 Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) flights over or close to Gaza’s airspace. | 37. | @charliemoore2551(2025-04-13 19:05:29) If Palestine ceases to exist, Starmer and his clueless foreign secretary will bear a large part of the responsibility. They have both expressed their support for the racist and genocidal colonial project that Israel is. | 38. | @janetmontgomery-r6j(2025-04-13 19:07:38) Recognise Palestine. Yes | 39. | @biocapsule7311(2025-04-13 19:08:34) Aside from support for Palestinian state, I find your stance of Xin Jiang hypocritical because China has over many dynasties and centuries (several times longer then the existence of the US), rule over the same piece of territory, siding with nationalist independence of Xin Jiang would be little different then telling European descend Americans to hand over governance to native Americans. And you are not actually calling for that are you. This is not like the British suddenly gave half of the land to people who hasn't been in the land for over 2 millennium. China has continuous historical ties to Xin Jiang for longer then the UK was a union. | 40. | @IPW133_MOT(2025-04-13 19:09:24) Are you confusing Gaza and the West Bank? You mention Hamas, they're in Gaza. whereas the West Bank is controlled by Hezbollah. Both consider themselves 'Palestine'. | 41. | @ClareFlynn-y8w(2025-04-13 19:09:32) About time you drew attention to this government failing Palestinian rights as much as the last one | 42. | @paulclark7658(2025-04-13 19:12:41) No way that the Jewnited States will be persuaded to step in. No chance | 43. | @AnthonyBrown12324(2025-04-13 19:14:00) Are you A Hamas supporter , what do you see as a Palestine state ? Do you suggest the Palestinian Authority , who haven't been elected in many years . Can you suggest who should represent the Palestinians , given that the polls suggest in the non Gaza areas that they will still vote Hamas ? | 44. | @justforthehackofit(2025-04-13 19:16:14) Starmer has been such a huge and unconditional Israeli fanboy, defending the genocide and all. Just makes you wonder what a man has got to do for him to show his bad side. | 45. | @Discodave007licencedtothrill.(2025-04-13 19:17:48) This video PROVES, how PHILIP the BRAINWASHED, Ukrainian Neo-Nationalist, sympathiser real is. Palestine has EXISTED and has been RECOGNISED, since the STONES AGES. ???????????????????? Which is a lot LONGER, than the 3500 years the Bible claims, or the 1948 Balfour Declaration claims, Israel has existed. FACT, you mainstream media BRAINWASHED clown. ???? Fancy being a so-called “teacher” and not knowing the History, eh? ??????????????? | 46. | @frankriley845(2025-04-13 19:18:46) Donnie and Bibi think they are the hero´s in this moment | 47. | @AnthonyBrown12324(2025-04-13 19:19:41) Your just talking rubbish . Rebuilding Gaza not taking significant resources ? If they attack Israel again exactly the same result . The Palestinians make it clear they want to take over Israel that's not going to happen , get real man . Just come clean you are anti semetic ,. | 48. | @antonioross9006(2025-04-13 19:22:58) Labour has soled it's soul and will not condemn the devil Whomever the devil may be. | 49. | @dannywatson4253(2025-04-13 19:30:42) Anything that we can be doing, we should be doing, though I suspect it is too late to actually achieve anything. Netenyahu has embarked on a campaign of open genocide against the Palestinian people with the sole intent to wipe them out entirely, and the world has done nothing to stop him. Trump continues to actively support the genocide, providing arms to Israel, and the only others directly involved are also targets of the campaign, so have to focus on defending themselves. The only way to stop this is to commit troops to defending a nation with no government, or convince Trump to crackdown on Israel. I see neither being possible. | 50. | @senanshortt5521(2025-04-13 19:33:19) Us Irish did that ages ago????????????????????????? |
