Labour's streaming tax I've said this so many times, why is it these politicians, not just in Westminster, but all over the UK the only thing they're good at is thinking of new ways to tax you.
And now a group of MPs, Labour MPs, think it's a good idea to have a streaming tax.
In other words, if you watch, I don't know, Amazon Prime, Netflix, Disney Plus, all that lot.
Now they're trying to frame it that this streaming tax is going to help fund UK production, like programmes about the UK in other words, citing of course that ridiculous fake drama adolescence or documentary if you want to take the Starmer line.
But because this has come from the Culture, Media and Sport Committee, something that Lisa Nandy is something to do with being the Minister for Culture, Media and Sport, she was on about bringing in a new tax to fund the BBC.
And streaming, sorry, taxing streamers like Netflix and that quite a while ago.
This is because she wants to keep funding the BBC.
This money will go to the BBC.
In other words, state funded TV.
What they want you to believe.
   Controlling the narrative.
You've only got to look at Netflix's content to see they actually make a hell of a lot of British programming.
   They don't need extra taxes.
Well, we don't need extra taxes in the UK for Netflix to make British drama.
And as far as making British programming goes, it will have the opposite effect.
Because they'll put this levy on, then it won't affect Netflix or Amazon or anybody else, will it?
Because that levy will then be put onto our bills from Netflix, etc.
Many people then will cancel these services because they're going up too much and they're getting far too expensive.
So it will have the complete opposite effect.
And less programs will actually be made.
And less programs will be watched because nobody can afford to watch them.
And this, mark my words, did all in an effort to try and save the BBC.
   Save the licence free.
I don't give a toss about the BBC or Channel 4.
They can thumb themselves or go bust.
   I don't care.

Theft by crooks and idiots.

F R O
3.@EllanaWolf(2025-04-14 16:33:11)
Good luck with that. All it will do is make people cancel their subs. I already cancelled my Netflix sub back in March due to the cost. Plus they rarely make anything worth watching!
4.@ThatGaijinFella(2025-04-14 16:34:02)
The BBC should be abolished as should the entire labour government!
5.@williamking1554(2025-04-14 16:34:16)
fund gimmegrants morelike
6.@George-r5w4z(2025-04-14 16:34:20)

7.@burnthetv007(2025-04-14 16:34:35)
????????UNLIMITED funds needed for the far away people. ???????????????????????????????????????????????????????? ???? ????????????????????
8.@jeff-m8o(2025-04-14 16:36:03)
Looks like Netflix will get cancelled as was my TV license and Sky package 4 years ago..
9.@jamestuck6764(2025-04-14 16:36:35)
Funny really; whenever people used to refer to the TV licence as the Television Tax the Beeb used to get very shirty and insist it was a licence fee and not a tax. Well they won’t be able to say that in the future if it goes ahead. Incidentally Channel Four isn’t funded out of the licence fee nor does it get government funding to my knowledge so it can be as left wing as it likes as far as I concerned. I don’t have to watch it or assume it is the last word on anything.
10.@davidellis8141(2025-04-14 16:36:55)
If they want to save bbc make it subscription or have adverts to fund them, stop paying extortionate wages then we’ll see how many watch it.
11.@michaelbailey2476(2025-04-14 16:37:14)
Wouldnt it be refreshing if any of them could cut the wasted stuff and come up with tax cuts. It only leads to wage inflation and more tax. How about cutting taxes rather than wasteful inefficient grants.
12.@danh6079(2025-04-14 16:38:17)
Another idea from ????????
13.@scottyjoe21(2025-04-14 16:38:19)
The streamers need to get together and block the u k from services.
Bet that wouldn't take long to snuff the tax out. They need to make that known now.
14.@eclipse1919-GTR(2025-04-14 16:42:04)
Labour’s lie tax will be more appropriate.
15.@neiljarvis8911(2025-04-14 16:43:31)
No licence no TV.....2 years and life is so much better.
16.@davidbarlow350(2025-04-14 16:43:52)
I queried the Department of Media and Sport, regarding my concerns about how little the Gambling Commission was doing to stop fraud .(by letting the lottery company, basically police itself).
They simply weren't interested in doing anything.
17.@waynestockton8953(2025-04-14 16:44:17)
I don't have a tv licence and never will and if i need one to watch streaming services then they will be cancelled
18.@stephengillett9771(2025-04-14 16:46:39)
does this Government stop money grabbing ....adolescence is not real...Propaganda TV
19.@clewis4744(2025-04-14 16:47:15)
I do hope this makes Netflix do a dramamentary about the Predominately .... etc, etc. in Predominated Labour Councils.
20.@stuartgrace5451(2025-04-14 16:47:20)
I will cancel everything before I pay any more taxes this proposed tax and any other new tax. I work hard and pay enough. NO MORE for me.
21.@davidendsor219(2025-04-14 16:48:27)
Where will this stop, streaming of videos on youtube, streaming news just like your (preston journalist) this is scary, the internet is a now necessary education tool as well as entertainment. Are we just determined to become the most backward country on the planet.
22.@StevenHunter-c4f(2025-04-14 16:49:08)
When is enough enough. When do we all stand up and say NO.
There's no way in our country for working families to get ahead, to just get a break.
Repeal immigration laws over the last 50yrs,get out country back, let people make and keep there own money.
23.@NicholasBarker-ip4ht(2025-04-14 16:50:29)
Not enough time or space for me to give a fully full answer about the BBC, but I do know stuff.
24.@????????????(2025-04-14 16:50:43)
This sort of news gives me depression. Yesterday I returned from my trip in Nepal. While I was there staying at a tourist homestay in a mountain village, I had a good interaction with my host, an elderly gentleman. He was saying about his brother who lives in Britain and serves in the Gurkha regiment of the British Army. His ancestors too had served in the Royal Army's Gurkha regiment over a century. According to him his brother is frustrated to see the current state of Britain. The present condition of Britain is not what his Gurkha ancestors along with their English companions had fought for and sacrificed their blood. The current condition of Britain is not what the valiant British soldiers had fought for during second world War.
25.@shirleydale2699(2025-04-14 16:50:43)
We don’t give a toss either PJ, if this comes to fruition then we will cancel the lot, BBC should be de-funded a.s.a.p, we will have nothing left in our pot for them to tax soon, perhaps they may tax the air we breath. For heavens sake whatever next.
26.@songscoops4205(2025-04-14 16:51:42)
It won't happen...Labour won't be in power...
27.@laurasands8322(2025-04-14 16:53:15)
So you have to pay for the BBC even though you don't have an aerial and have no interest in watching their anti British propaganda or their endless obsession with drag queens.
28.@newjoel18(2025-04-14 16:53:26)
The BBC and Labour desperately need each other.
BBC need Labour to keep their jobs safe.
Labour need BBC to write propaganda about them.
29.@Shaggy-j3s(2025-04-14 16:54:18)
