    Well, howdy there, Internet people.
   It's Bell again.
So today, we're going to talk about Congress moving to curtail Trump's trade policies, even though he at least for now backed down.
Congress went on break for Easter.
In two weeks, when they come back, some thought they would let the effort to restrain Trump go.
But now, it's highly expected that they move forward with effort to claw back powers delegated to them by the Constitution, that over the years, they delegated to the executive branch.
Despite Trump's current turnaround, it looks like those in the Senate that worried about Trump's economic policies are planning on continuing the push to derail his power to act unilaterally.
Or, as Senator Ron Wyden of Oregon said, quote, My colleagues are telling me they want to move ahead.
He then quipped about how the only thing up in financial markets is volatility.
The Senate knows what a lot of U.S. trading partners know.
Trump has become more erratic, and global markets can't withstand a sustained period of reacting to Trump's social media without severe economic consequences that will derail the U.S. economy.
As we discussed, they may be hoping that if they can pull back the power from Trump, that traditional U.S. trading partners will relax a little bit if the power over regulating foreign commerce becomes more decentralized.
Senator Maria Cantwell gave a far more kitchen table oriented reason, saying, quote, We have seven Republicans on the bill so far, which was just introduced last week.
The House representatives introduced a bill with two Democrats and two Republicans.
So it's continuing to be bipartisan, bicameral.
And I think it's because people are hearing from their constituents who are saying, Wait, why am I paying this extra tax on these consumer goods?
I don't want to do it.
It's important to remember that even though Trump caved to the pressure of the bond market when it comes to his reciprocal tariff plan, tariffs today are still much higher than when he took office.
The cost of those tariffs will be paid by us, the consumers.
It's also important to acknowledge that Trump's trade policy has been utterly chaotic, to use the nicest possible term.
There is nothing saying that Trump won't be convinced by someone to reinstate the tariffs at a higher level with no notice.
His pause is only a pause because he says it exists.
The uncertainty will continue because nobody knows what Trump will actually do.
The 90 days is a full quarter of promised chaos.
And the administration hasn't ruled out extending the pause beyond that 90 days.
Sure, the pause is better for the economy and the average person than the tariffs being implemented.
But the uncertainty will eventually take its toll as large companies delay investment and hold off on making firm plans until Trump figures out what he's going to do.
Regardless, at this point, the only thing that will restore American reputation and trade stability is Congress reasserting its role as the regulator of foreign commerce.
   Anyway, it's just a thought.
   Y'all have a good day.

My cat keeps watching me whenever I try to be intimate with my boyfriend. I think she's judging my technique or plotting to take over my spot in bed????
14.@donaldmrambojr5695(2025-04-13 14:03:56)
You have to go to college to be a clown. There is NO such requirement in Congress ????????????
15.@SaberToothBicycle(2025-04-13 14:03:57)
Congressional campaign cycles never end.

This makes them just as sensitive as can be to the catastrophe in chief's random attacks upon their constituents.

Good luck with that, Republicans.

Remain resilient everyone.
16.@victoriajohnson-parratt6975(2025-04-13 14:04:41)
Whenever it is wherever you are, I hope you find some peace today!
17.@MargaretR.J(2025-04-13 14:04:51)
Thank god there are republicans able to stand up against this tyranny! Although why these congresspersons thought it was a good idea to give DJT more power is beyond me!
18.@paulettebrown3427(2025-04-13 14:06:00)
Morning all
19.@donaldmrambojr5695(2025-04-13 14:06:06)
I'll ALWAYS stand with Canada...ELBOWS UP ??????????????
20.@Leonaza7(2025-04-13 14:06:08)
Congress already has the power of the purse, that includes tariffs that makes sense. Congress needs to stop him.
21.@kevinkrochak2546(2025-04-13 14:06:11)
Americans will eventually understand that all the hype about exceptionalism has been exposed as a myth and that their global power has been significantly diminished for at least a generation … keep shuffling those deck chairs tho!
22.@katboss4886(2025-04-13 14:06:14)
Good morning peeps ???? very happy to see you all here this morning
23.@roguemedic(2025-04-13 14:06:25)
Trump is using the American economy as his pinata and Americans do not like it.

.
24.@colleenhaithcock216(2025-04-13 14:06:51)
Thank you
25.@Psykolord1989(2025-04-13 14:07:10)
And their brilliant plan is to make clear that this is their goal, and then go on break for 2 weeks before actually doing anything, giving Trump 2 weeks to go scorched earth before they get back. Genius!
26.@douglasthomson8022(2025-04-13 14:07:11)
He's unfit for office, period. Not all that certain that Vance would be much better, sadly.
27.@MBMCincy63(2025-04-13 14:07:18)
Belle O'clock Ranchhands good morning ????????????????.
Congress seem to take so many breaks and accomplish little when in session.????
28.@margaretnicol3423(2025-04-13 14:07:37)
Well at least it encouraged the rest of the world to form new partnerships. Nothing like making new friends, is there?
29.@Leonaza7(2025-04-13 14:08:00)
What an idiotic thing to do to American consumers. He needs to be held accountable.
30.@johnanthony2545(2025-04-13 14:08:32)
Sick of this self inflicted tragedy.
31.@darylwilliams7883(2025-04-13 14:08:44)
One thing I don't get: Trump used fentanyl as an excuse to declare an emergency against Canada and Mexico to hit us with tariffs, but I don't get what excuse he uses for the whole rest of the planet.
32.@lisacornella-fq7wu(2025-04-13 14:09:05)
Johnson won't put it up for a vote. Our only.hope is whoever is suing re the tariffs, forget exactly who filed, can do something.
33.@rebekahlopez7212(2025-04-13 14:09:07)
I hope your correct; every time I think that the Republicans will stand up to Trump they cave.
34.@markrenfrow9873(2025-04-13 14:09:25)
Good Morning Ms. Belle and internet folks.
35.@hannahdyson7129(2025-04-13 14:09:28)
The trouble is like another certian leader the 1930s government thought they could control said leader

They got purged . Be prepared for anything I say
36.@Jonas988(2025-04-13 14:09:39)
They shuold call it the "Trump needs to sit down and shut up"-act
37.@sulljason(2025-04-13 14:09:44)
All this is probably exactly why Congress was given the power in the first place.
38.@angelikalindenau943(2025-04-13 14:09:52)
Belle o'clock! Will they really get their act together?
39.@pjtrant(2025-04-13 14:09:56)
Wow congress gets 2 weeks off while we all suffer with the lunatic in charge.
40.@deborahharrison8407(2025-04-13 14:10:01)
Congress is a disgrace. Letting this felon take down the country
41.@robertdwyer6647(2025-04-13 14:10:02)
Thank you for all your diligent research and fact based analysis.
42.@Mtnsunshine(2025-04-13 14:10:05)
So it takes one man tanking our economy and the world economic situation for republicans to finally grow a spine. It’s always about the money with these guys, isn’t it? Human right being trampled? No problem. Money leaving their pockets? Now they have to do something. Sorry folks. We won’t forget your inaction well before this. You all still need to be voted OUT of office. You have proven you don’t care about The People, only yourselves.
43.@svengaefgen5909(2025-04-13 14:10:51)
It will take some time to empty the stock, then businesses will have to pass the 145% to the consumer, or go out of business.
44.@margaretnicol3423(2025-04-13 14:10:51)
If Americans were allowed to use the small electric Chinese cars the climate control problems would probably be down by about a third. ????????
45.@KarenHawes(2025-04-13 14:10:59)
I wished I had as many paid vacations as Congress gives itself.
46.@diannabryzicki7111(2025-04-13 14:11:02)
Belle. Thank you.
47.@jamesschrader6855(2025-04-13 14:11:17)
Long over due, however if Trump finds out, well I don't expect it till the Democrats win at least the House Of Representives and maybe the Senate.
48.@JoshuaGrahm-e7i(2025-04-13 14:11:18)
i remember hearing once that at the time of the constitution's writing, the word regulate often had an implied meaning of something like "removing barriers to" i.e., to make action and commerce standardized and without arbitrary barriers.
seems like that needs to be the MO going forward
49.@jenniferstone2975(2025-04-13 14:11:20)
Better do something quick to show the world that they can restrain the loon… because, as we’ve seen time and again, everything Trump touches dies.
50.@ramirorodriguez9671(2025-04-13 14:11:40)
The chaoticness of the tariffs may be even worse than the tariffs themselves.
