Hi, welcome to another episode of Hot Takes.
It's a sign of absolute sheer desperation that this Labour government has now decided to call in the army to try and sort out Birmingham and its absolute mess with the bin strikes.
Now, this is also rather humiliating for Angela Rayner personally.
She said she was stepping forward to get this sorted and fix it and everything.
And both the unions and the council rejected her and told her to go boil her head.
But the rodent-ridden Birmingham city is now a post-apocalyptic mess.
The government now, of course, has formally asked the armed forces to tackle the crisis as the situation in Britain's second city has deteriorated beyond all measures to fix it.
Now, they will not be putting soldiers on the streets, deploying them to clear the mountains of rubbish.
This will all be basically office-based planners.
It's going to be logistical support to try and sort out the situation rather than actual sending people out to pick up the rubbish and put it on lorries and take it away.
A government spokesman has said that the government has already provided a number of staff to support the council with logistics and make sure the response on the ground is swift.
To address the associated public health crisis.
And this, of course, is the problem.
It is now a major public health crisis and they are required by law to try and sort it.
And so they are now calling in military planning personnel.
Is that because Birmingham City's own planning personnel aren't very good at the job?
And if that's the case, maybe we should be firing them.
   Ho hum.
They've got pest control experts out patrolling the streets with rifles.
   These aren't military people.
   They're just pest controls.
   And they're shooting rats.
There's a plague of rats at the moment in Birmingham.
Of course, plague of rats often leads to a plague.
And of course, all these rats have been, I suppose, making themselves fat and sleek on all the rubbish that the locals have been putting out rather than taking to the tip themselves.
And of course, Birmingham subsequently becomes the fly tipping capital of Britain.
People are going there with all their rubbish and just dropping off and nobody's even noticing now.
For the record, there is something like 17,000 tonnes of rubbish on Birmingham streets and nobody knows how to get rid of it.
And certainly Birmingham Council can't afford it.
   They are, well, bankrupt effectively.
And so they are calling in the government and saying it's an emergency.
   And it is.
But it isn't going to get better any time soon.
And one only has to look at why or ask the question, at least, why the locals have let it get this bad rather than getting in the car and taking it to the tip or something.
They've just dumped it on the streets.
Tells you, I think, a lot more about the locals than it does about the council.
But hey, five weeks in, no sign of an end.
The council have got the money to pay the workers and the workers aren't giving in.
   They're not even negotiating.
   C'est la vie.
   Watch this space.
   See what happens.
   Thanks a lot.
   Bye.

When they have Sorted Birmingham they can then Sort out Russia
13.@petermanning1864(2025-04-14 08:15:57)
So they can use the army to help with the rubbish but not defend our borders.
14.@lorrainemclay3343(2025-04-14 08:16:37)
Is this the beginning of NCRI - Non Crime Rubbish Incidents? Picture it ????????????????????????
15.@JohnWalker-tb4uu(2025-04-14 08:17:10)
Britain 2025, well done liebour, you never let us down, do you. Still fuckung useless.
16.@BlackGriffin195(2025-04-14 08:18:13)
What the hell is going on in this country. The Army is now required to be the dustbin men. You are taking away people's jobs and dragging in our military forces whose job is to protect this country. All because you have imported the trash of the world who in turn have trashed our cities. The Army should first of all round up all the trash we have imported, and send it back to tits source, and then the dustbin men can get back to their jobs. The Army and the Navy should be seriously employed STOPPING THE TRASH ARRIVING IN THE FIRST PLACE and not clearing up the rubbish they create.
17.@the_forbinproject2777(2025-04-14 08:18:46)
half the army rejected the challenge as they/he/she/it would mess their makeup and break a nail (!)
18.@pilksuk(2025-04-14 08:19:54)
Looking at our borders getting invaded daily the army being used to clean up the rubbish and empty the bins seems like all they are capable of doing.
19.@jamestuck6764(2025-04-14 08:20:06)
If it’s anything like my local”recycling centre” you have to provide proof of identity and residency to stop out of towners dumping their rubbish in a centre that they don’t actually pay for via council tax. Ironic really because it’s a lefty liberal council which got all excited and upset about voter id wailing it would bar the marginalised in society etc etc (and maybe reduce their majority once the voter fraud stopped) but didn’t have a seconds hesitation in applying it to rubbish dumping which I think is used by the marginalised in society as well
20.@TinderboxUK(2025-04-14 08:20:11)
I read that the bin-men had their wages cut to match office staff after the council was fined for not paying all staff (paper shufflers) the same as physically demanding and damaging work in wet and freezing conditions.
21.@nicksealey7004(2025-04-14 08:20:26)
ARM OUR BORDERS,,,,
22.@philbonell2553(2025-04-14 08:20:57)
Typical of the Labour Party! To call in the army when it's to a disagreement with a union!
23.@bernardloftus4982(2025-04-14 08:22:45)
The Warwickshire regiment new deployment?
24.@woodall1956(2025-04-14 08:23:22)
I can only imagine what those soldiers are going to find in that rubbish. They shouldn't be doing it.
25.@Shaggy-j3s(2025-04-14 08:25:38)
I think the Army should refuse and tell Liebour to do one. ???? ????????
26.@greensun5998(2025-04-14 08:26:00)
I agree the "locals" should deal with it themselves but the tip workers are probably on strike so the tip will be closed.
27.@mcfcok3773(2025-04-14 08:29:15)
The world is laughing at us
28.@shirleyflorance2671(2025-04-14 08:31:31)
What an embaressment for the Army
29.@barryloughran3632(2025-04-14 08:31:39)
Everyone is getting the blame, APART from the citizens themselves. ANIMALS.
30.@elizabethjohnston3549(2025-04-14 08:31:56)
Would the Birmingham Council not be better paying the bin men what they are due? Instead of leaving their citizens in mountains of rubbish.
31.@paulsaid1365(2025-04-14 08:32:50)
Call in the illegal Hotel Battalions to clear up
32.@ronaldmasters1225(2025-04-14 08:32:55)
The bill for the army should be reimbursed for the cleanup.
33.@susanmitchell4744(2025-04-14 08:34:12)
I wonder who the main culprits are?
34.@Sheim-b4k(2025-04-14 08:34:52)
I drove through a predominantly white area of Birmingham yesterday (Northfield) and there was no rubbish on the streets. The bins were full but no bags anywhere else.
35.@stephenbowker824(2025-04-14 08:36:21)
It’s the way they deal with rubbish in Pakistan. ????????
36.@david-hf3dk(2025-04-14 08:37:52)
I would leave it as it is obviously a home from home for the residents.
37.@Rigante(2025-04-14 08:39:19)
Birmingham have had a problem with Fat Rats ever since labour ran the place
38.@lesprice255(2025-04-14 08:41:17)
GET THE UNEMPLOYED TO SORT IT THEY ARE DOING NOTHING ELSE AS THERE IS NO JOBS FOR THEM
39.@anthonybaxendale887(2025-04-14 08:44:36)
Sorry, no sympathy for the Brummies, after all they voted for the council. Ther must be plenty of waste disposal companies that can be called upon & the Army could be put to better use defending our boarders ????
40.@neilJackson-b6v(2025-04-14 08:46:12)
Why do the army get the shitty end of the stick no pun intended get contractors in to clear this the army can logistically sort this and organise the clearance but the question is where is it going to go and be disposed off
41.@G8YTZ(2025-04-14 08:46:33)
The strike has been going on a lot longer than five weeks! My daughter‘s road has not been collected for months. It’s started with them not collecting recycling bins and then even the main bins didn’t get emptied.

One way Birmingham could save money is not to supply free wheelie bins. People should pay for their own standard wheelie bins and then perhaps they’ll look after them a little better.

Where I live in Bromley Council does not provide wheelie bins, you have to provide your own.
42.@zoeathomson4305(2025-04-14 08:48:11)
Disgraceful to the British army. To have to come in a clean up of Birmingham's rubbish crisis.
Yet councilors get a pay rise ?
43.@pensans1(2025-04-14 08:50:40)
Labour postal voters will look upon the British army as an invading force, an act of war!
44.@tonysheerness2427(2025-04-14 08:54:30)
Bring in people who throw rubbish over the fence or in the road and it soon spirals out of control especially when there disputes.
45.@shayne109(2025-04-14 08:54:55)
hah only the civil service management could think that adding more management can solve a practical problem!!
46.@davidhendrie9455(2025-04-14 08:56:26)
Get the Labour activists in, you know the Biden cheer leaders.
47.@colrhodes377(2025-04-14 08:57:38)
So Starmer hasn't managed to get boots on the ground yet again
48.@OldandCold6955(2025-04-14 09:00:51)
Birminstan a sh!t-hole over run with rats
49.@TonyPalmer-g8t(2025-04-14 09:01:24)
They should get those that are claiming benifits to clean the rubbish that way they wil be earning thete benefits and let the army etc protect our boarders from illegal migrants in rubber boats landing
50.@Tomw-e3g(2025-04-14 09:01:30)
The dirty bxstards responsible should clean it up then be deported.
