The Saturday Sitting of Parliament! (POS)

Silver Fox Hot Takes (Apr 12, 2025 8:00am | Duration: 0h 2m 30s)

Summary Transcription Comments
Hi, welcome to another episode of Hot Takes and Parliament is recalled.
It's the first time since the Queen died.
Coming to Parliament on a Saturday is such a very rare occurrence.
The last Saturday sitting was, as I say, when the Queen died and they were doing the tributes to Her Majesty.
Prior to that, it was 2019 for the EU Withdrawal Agreement.
Prior to that, it was back in 1982 for the Falklands.
This is how rare Saturday sittings are.
Prior to that was 1956 for Suez and 1949 for a summer adjournment debate, which was the last sitting of summer, owing to the changes that were necessitated, because of the state Britain was in at the end of the war.
But since 1939, only five sittings.
So far, this will be the sixth.
   It's such a rare event.
And we know that it's about steel and we know they're likely to push for a nationalisation, which I said in a video yesterday, I'm all for.
It's one of the very few things I think we should nationalise.
The speaker has already had to travel in.
He actually had to travel in yesterday to write the proclamation because it had to be published, apparently.
But I'm sure he had his superb chauffeur-driven car driving very, very quickly to do it.
And so the House will be recorded, starting procedures at 11 o'clock.
Apparently, there's only going to be two motions to be talked about and voted on and hopefully pushed through.
Now, it's one of those things that in emergency session, they can push through a law within a day when they're hoping to get this through.
So it'll do announcement, motion, first reading, off to the Lords, second reading, off to the Lords, back, voted, done.
That's how they want to do it.
So they can try and get it all done in a day.
   It can be done.
I don't think they're allowing too many amendments, that kind of thing.
But we should wait and see.
I'll keep an eye on it as the day goes on.
   Anyway, thanks a lot.

Bout only good thing Liebour has done, nationalise British Steel. If we cant make steel our armed forces are screwed.
2.@amandabell8827(2025-04-12 08:07:02)
Amazing what they can do if they want isn't it?
3.@richinderbyshire4779(2025-04-12 08:07:07)
OK so they've been recalled to sit in the house. Will they sort anything? Will they suddenly do something good for us? Do they have our best interests in mind? Hmm... No, I reckon. No.
4.@davidtomkins2542(2025-04-12 08:07:09)
The blast furnaces have a lifespan of 5years, that will see this parliament out,it will cost taxpayers billions, still they spend like drunken sailors
5.@Garyh12345(2025-04-12 08:08:21)
What else will they push through on the hush hush
6.@doomweaver2007(2025-04-12 08:11:09)
Have you seen Scotlands latest problem with their Ferry’s to the island of Aran ????Lol they built the harbour the wrong size
7.@TheSpuggiehawk(2025-04-12 08:11:46)
I'm not necessarily against the idea of nationalising it, providing a very close eye is kept on how it is managed and funded. The problem with nationalised industry is the inefficiencies that grow over time and the lack of accountability (and transparency) for wasted public funds until the government if forced to sell it back, cheap, into private hands.
8.@imbonkers3629(2025-04-12 08:12:25)
We are not nationalising british oops ???? I mean Chinese steel , they are sitting to see if we should buy the raw materials (coal) so we pay the running costs China still own it ????it should be full nationalisation or zero ???? it loses £700k a day would you pay that is the question ????
9.@robwellings1608(2025-04-12 08:12:46)
I believe we will still have to import coking coal so our steel production is still vulnerable to external sources. Open the Cumbrian coal mine as well
10.@Critical-e3o(2025-04-12 08:14:25)
Whatever is decided today will be reversed after the local elections. Labour are promising a lot of things before the local election. Just like they did before the last General election.
11.@paulinephillips8305(2025-04-12 08:14:29)
They'll rush to get it done, whatever it is, so they can get back to their country estates.
12.@jackking5567(2025-04-12 08:15:16)
My local Liebore councillor actually celebrated the blocking of the Whitehaven cintering coal mine opening. Yesterday, she was shouting about how awesome it was that her party were doing this British Steel thing. Talk about clueless councillors..
13.@transitfran1126(2025-04-12 08:15:49)
The UK has a maintenance contract for millitery vehicles weapons etc , needs steel , worth millions , yes we gave to Ukraine but the contracts gave some back. No steel no return of donations to Ukraine war effort
14.@garryswift4073(2025-04-12 08:15:58)
Lol im going to Abersoch for weekend, they welcome to it i dont need them , never have
15.@lesliecarter4295(2025-04-12 08:17:04)
Recalling parliament to sack Ed Miliband…???????????????? if only..?
16.@henrywood1580(2025-04-12 08:17:30)
It's all for show; they are just grandstanding before the local elections. They could have done this six months ago. So, given that, according to them, there is a black hole of at least £22 billion, where are they going to find the money to nationalise the steel works?
17.@mikecaine3643(2025-04-12 08:18:41)
Probably asking for overtime payment
18.@Paul-b6d(2025-04-12 08:19:20)
Oh the drama
19.@trevmacc(2025-04-12 08:19:59)
i bet they will all be claiming treble time and nothing done ,pity anker is not going ,must be a lot of back handers going on
20.@simplyr62(2025-04-12 08:20:28)
I may be being cynical, but I fear this may be theatre to write off British Steel!
21.@drews1953(2025-04-12 08:21:34)
Working on a weekend Never ....
Wait for the sickies to arrive
22.@johnmcauley6762(2025-04-12 08:24:31)
“Parliment recalled” this steel business is a potential economic and security threat to the country. No shit. A daily invasion of “illegal and undocumented “ men of military age with a total potential fighting force now measured in tens of thousand is not ! Mr Churchill is in a spin in his grave.
23.@alisonbrown1841(2025-04-12 08:25:04)
WHATS THE SAT SITTING FOR???
24.@grahamjesson5464(2025-04-12 08:25:06)
Nationalise it after handing it to Asia, destroying it ! well done. IT'S A PANTOMIME to look like they are doing something, without being contentious and stirring up genuinely important topics that need addressing urgently. They lack the knowledge or fortitude to come up with any solutions to anything,
I bet they spend at least an hour of every day deciding what biscuits they will have tomorrow.
25.@williamparry9314(2025-04-12 08:25:35)
Must be triple time and a month in lieu.
26.@UtubeRfarlefty(2025-04-12 08:26:00)
Bet they all claim massive expenses for it (had to travel first class from Outer Mongolia to get there and then back again for hols)?
27.@alisonbrown1841(2025-04-12 08:26:24)
MPs BANK ACCOUNTS & FAMILY MEMBERS NEEDED AUDITED. VESTED INTERESTS FROM OLIGARY FUNDING
28.@DeltaX79(2025-04-12 08:26:34)
Keep them there all night
29.@fatbelly27(2025-04-12 08:28:12)
I presume they are debating the grooming gangs or the release of the wrongly convicted
30.@stevewatkins228(2025-04-12 08:28:29)
Liebour are failing in every which way?
Use bunch of twits. Clueless in every way.
They will never get voted in again.
I guess Sir Queer Kier needs steel for the weapons to be used in Ukraine? War monger !!!
31.@bassplayer3974(2025-04-12 08:29:14)

33.@met54(2025-04-12 08:33:40)
I wonder how many will turn up? These days it's hard enough getting them to attend during the week, never mind at the weekend. I bet if it was about their pay the bloody place would be packed.
34.@cmarsh-e4h(2025-04-12 08:37:01)
Dont trust Starmer on anything
35.@navnitmistry8970(2025-04-12 08:37:07)
Did the speaker visit China first ????????????
36.@angelaeastwood3938(2025-04-12 08:39:40)
Well, they are not there about stopping illegals or reducing the legal migration coming in or the g. gangs or to sack crazy net zero ed . Or to sack Rachel from accounts. Or giving starmer the push or sacking khan, and stop giving money to Ukraine. Or other countries, or leaving our farmers land alone. but hey, that's all wìshful thinking . And common sense???????????
37.@LindaSmith-xo8qb(2025-04-12 08:41:07)
Matinee performance at the circus ???? ????????????????????
38.@pwbpeter(2025-04-12 08:42:02)

39.@sob-iLs(2025-04-12 08:42:15)
Welsh Assembly are not shouting about reopening Port Talbot steelworks, another bunch of commies that hate the Welsh workers.
40.@kevin982(2025-04-12 08:42:59)
Is that just Labour or everybody else as well? Honest question. I haven't a clue.
41.@bekasa(2025-04-12 08:46:28)
Drama, this issue has been on the cards for days, weeks and months if not longer. Is this going to be a curtain call for the inept?
42.@Rigante(2025-04-12 08:47:06)
It's currently Chinese owned, so it'll be dealing with the Chinese, we know the Chinese want greater access to this country, a super embassy, integrated technology and the like, being labour they'll find a way to look like they are not agreeing while at the same time kissing Xi's posterior and capitulating to all their demands, on the other hand labour seem to like the idea of compulsory purchase orders, I'd say let's see if they have the meaty vegies but we all know the answer to that
43.@6581punk(2025-04-12 08:48:20)
They'll nationalise it, then the first thing that will happen is the workers will go on strike asking for a pay rise.
44.@RobBattram(2025-04-12 08:52:47)
sudden burst of expenses for 600+ MP's
45.@RoyLock(2025-04-12 08:53:01)

46.@alanstraw4884(2025-04-12 08:54:57)
